5L40-E, 5L50-E Automatic Transmission Rebuild Kit and Pistons

The Turbo Hydromatic 5L40E is a 5 speed rear wheel drive transmission. It was first introduced into the market around 1999 in BMW cars. Then in 2001 for the BMW X5 and in 2003 the Cadillac. It is also know as the A5S and the 360R. The pro number for the 5L40E is M82 and for the 5L50E the pro number is M22. This unit has a detachable bell housing and tail housing.

The overhaul kit is the same for all years. The master kit from 1999 to 2001 is the same and it changes for 2002 and up. The master kit and bonded piston kit in the picture below are from 2002 and up. There are two pictures of the piston kit, front and back of the same part. The filter in the picture is for the BMW X5. The master kit come with or without the pistons. A piston kit could be purchased separately.


S5-42 and S5-47 Manual Transmission Forks, Hubs...

The S5-42 is a 5 speed rear wheel drive standard transmission. This unit is a ZF design and is used in Ford trucks and vans and has a casting number of "1307".

Below are the pictures of the 1-2, 3-4 and the 5-reverse forks plus the 1-2 hub and slider. It is suggested that when replacing a fork due to damage the hub and slider should be replaced as well. This will insure proper function between the fork and hub.






Dodge Ram 50 Series Trucks

The Dodge pickup 50 series came with Mitsubishi transfer cases.

The D50, Ram 50 and Ram Power 50 from 1981 to 1992 with the 2.0, 2.3 and 3.0 liter engine came with the KM 100 transfer case. The Raider with the 2.6 and 3.0L from 1987-1989 also came with the KM100.

The Colt and Colt Vista 2.0L from 1985-1991 came with the KM271. The Colt and Colt Vista from 1990 to 1994 with the 1.8 and the 2.4 liter engine came with the KM272 as did the Laser from 1989 to 1994 with the 2.0L.

The Ram 50 from 1980 and up 4 wheel drive uses a 1.75 inch wide chain with 82 pitches at 3/8" and 41 links with a rocker pin design.
