There has been a lot of phone calls regarding the solenoid block for the 5R55N/S/W. What I am hearing from our clients and reading from the professionals in the trade publications is that a defective solenoid block can cause many fault codes and headaches.
The professionals suggest that replacing the solenoid block should be one of the first parts replaced in an effort to determine if it will cure the problem.
About 60% of my clients with code problems for this automatic unit replace the solenoid block first and most of them tell me that took care of it.
It is highly recommended by the manufacture that the solenoid block be replaced when a transmission problem or failure occurs.
The solenoid blocks are the same for the 5R55S and 5R55W and different for the 5R55N. The one for the "N" does have a reverse pressure switch and the "S & W" do not.
